Programs/Services | Empower Medical Clinic Program
The Empower Project clinic is a joint venture with UNMC, Creighton Magis Clinic and YWCA Omaha. The clinic opened its doors on October 5th at the YWCA. The Project's mission is to provide education and basic health screenings to empower women, through knowledge of their personal health. The project aims to combat this problem by offering healthcare screening and educational seminars for the women who visit the YWCA Omaha.
The Empower Project provides bi-monthly sessions on Monday evenings, in which healthcare professionals and students volunteer their time to offer basic health screenings at YWCA Omaha. Services that are offered include eye exams, blood pressure screening, blood glucose testing and BMI. In addition, we refer women to other free clinics in the area such as the Sharing Clinic and OneWorld Health Clinic for healthcare that we cannot provide at the sessions. Along with these healthcare screenings, we offer educational seminars on the same evening that are facilitated by UNMC students. These seminars are informative classes about nutrition on a budget, exercise at home, over the counter drugs, children safety, immunizations, and when to go to a doctor.
The Empower Clinic is held the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 5:30p.m. - 7:30p.m. at YWCA Omaha - 29th & Farnam. You do not need to make an appointment to attend.
