Domestic Violence Project

The YWCA Omaha Domestic Violence Project provides free legal services to victims of domestic violence in family law cases, which includes divorce, custody, protection and harassment orders, and child support matters. YWCA Omaha is committed to ensuring victim safety and providing options by connecting them to the referrals and support required to achieve self- sufficiency; i.e. legal assistance that gives victims physical, emotional and financial distance from their current situation.

Overall, YWCA Omaha provides a holistic approach to legal services for low-income victims of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault. To help fund these services, YWCA partners with Legal Aid of Nebraska to receive referrals of clients that Legal Aid is otherwise unable to assist due to staffing, funding or other conflicts.

The Domestic Violence Project is a partnership between YWCA Omaha and Legal Aid of Nebraska, funded in part by a federal grant provided by the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). We also refer clients seeking assistance for other YWCA Omaha services as well, such as crisis counseling, career planning, and the ability to use our clothing closet.
